Having a nutritious porridge in your bag is a real lifesaver when your child gets hungry on the go. In this article, we show you how to easily make your own, homemade porridge porridge – using Unna's porridge & porridge as a base. With just a few ingredients, you get a soft, smooth and extra nutritious porridge that both satisfies the stomach and gives the child important building blocks for a growing body and brain.
Ingredients (about 4 servings)
- 1 cup dried, unsweetened apricots
- 250 g frozen strawberries
- About 1-2 dl water or apricot puree (adjust to desired consistency)
- 2 dl porridge powder ( Unnas gruel & porridge, 6 months ) + 2 dl water
- 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Do this:
- Soak the apricots. Place 1 cup of dried apricots in a small bowl and cover with water. Let stand for about 15-20 minutes, or until softened.
- Boil berries and apricots. Place the apricots together with the soaking water (about 1 dl) and strawberries (or other berries of your choice) in a saucepan. Boil, stirring gently, until all the fruit and berries are completely soft.
- Blend until puree. Pour the cooked berry and apricot mixture into a blender or use a hand blender directly in the saucepan. Blend until you have a completely smooth puree. Thin the puree with water as needed.
- Prepare the porridge: Mix 2 dl of porridge powder with 2 dl of warm water in a separate, larger bowl. Choose the porridge powder that is appropriate for your child's age.
- Mix the porridge with the puree: Mix the finished porridge with the fruit puree by stirring the puree into the porridge a little at a time until you get a smooth and thick consistency. Adjust the amount of puree according to how loose or firm you want the smoothie to be.
- Add canola oil and lemon juice: Stir in canola oil and lemon juice to provide extra nutrition and a fresh flavor.
- Fill bags and store. Let the porridge cool slightly before pouring it into squeeze bags. Store in the refrigerator and serve within 1–2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
Now you have a homemade, nutritious porridge sandwich that is perfect to take on the go!
