Female ownership

Kvinnligt ägande

The incredibly cool and superior way we women do carrying and giving birth to children is also proven time and time again to be the root of the fact that we generally "lag behind" men in many other things - career, salary, pension and perhaps above all ownership. Did you know, for example, that in Sweden, men own more than twice as much as women (in total, things that can be owned, such as real estate, land, companies, shares).

Have you read Ownershift's latest report? It maps out company ownership in Sweden, which turns out to be 70% male. Men own companies more than twice as many as women, and the proportion of female owners is increasing surprisingly slowly.

And does it matter then? Yes, we think so. Just as highlighted in the Ownershift report, we are convinced that with a more diversified ownership of companies, we would be better able to create products and services for everyone. That take into account everyone's needs and that put new issues on the agenda and perhaps solve things in new ways, where needed. Capture the potential!!!

Imagine if, as Deqa Abukar wisely talks about in an interview with Ownershift, we could “take advantage of the differences between the sexes rather than turn a blind eye to them”. She is referring to the fundamental difference that it is we women who carry and give birth to children, and men do not. It is not about trampling on women's conditions, she says, but that there is no need to praise development either. “We should not adapt to a society that is not built for women” but rather, she says, we need to build systems that suit women, given that we are the ones who get pregnant.

There is nothing to suggest that men are better than women at finding solutions to problems, which is the essence of entrepreneurship and the beginning of entrepreneurship. However, there is much to suggest that the systems for entrepreneurship are adapted for men. Of course, there are many pieces of the puzzle left for women to have the same opportunities to own companies, but a helping hand can be role models and inspiration for women to dare to start and grow companies. We at Unna want to be able to inspire, and can safely say that starting and running a company is ABSOLUTELY the most fun we have ever done!
