Unna Organic Infant Formula Stage 1 can be given as a replacement or complement to breast milk from the first week after birth following the recommendation of a child health professional or pediatrician. Probiotics are a type of lactic acid bacteria – usually described as a collective name for the strains of lactic acid bacteria that are good – thus have shown positive health effects in clinical studies.
The content of pre- and probiotics in breast milk promotes the development of a good intestinal bacterial flora in infants. The most common probiotics in breast milk are lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Probiotics are live microorganisms that survive passage through the gastrointestinal tract and provide beneficial health effects.
Unna products contain probiotics from the strain Bifidobacterium lactis.
For the good bacteria to thrive in the gut, they need to be fed. Prebiotics are simply called probiotic food. Prebiotics are relatively easy to obtain in the diet, through foods rich in fiber. Breastfed children receive prebiotic dietary fiber, galactooligasaccharides (GOS), through breast milk. GOS is added to Unna’s products.
GOS, a so-called non-digestible oligosaccharide, is first metabolized in the large intestine. GOS added to infant formula has been shown to stimulate the growth of good bacteria in the gut and give babies softer stools, similar to those of breastfed babies.
No, the pre-mixed replacement should be drunk freshly prepared, within 1 hour. There is a risk of bacterial growth if the mixture is left for longer.
